The Chor Bizarre on Abermarle St is a den of lamps, antiques, silver & magnificently mismatched ornate furniture.
It’s a suitably exotic backdrop for authentic food from across the subcontinent. Friendly & knowledgeable staff are happy to guide you through the menu, but it’s worth trying achari paneer tikka (char-grilled paneer cheese), before rich, dark & tender Kashmiri rogan josh accompanied by baghare baingan (an exquisite Hyderabadi delicacy of aubergine simmered in peanut, tamarind & sesame-seed sauce). Refreshing desserts include mango rice pudding with pistachios & coconut.
Wash it down with Indian beers, food-friendly wines or some of the finest teas in London (cinnamon masala chai comes highly recommended).
